Morgan Marine Sonata National Championships 2022

We welcome the Sonata Class to Brightlingsea for a great National Championship

Racing will take place in the Colne and Blackwater estuaries with a mix of windward-leeward and a long distance race. The Colne yacht Club has spearheaded the resurgence of the Sonata class on the East Coast and now has a racing fleet of 12 boats, plus its own four-boat sail training fleet. Brightlingsea has a long and distinguished yacht and dinghy racing pedigree and you can be sure of great conditions backed by superb facilities on and off the water. Browse our site to discover more about the 2022 Nationals – we're looking forward to seeing you in August.

Why come to Brightlingsea?

Our Club

Formed in the 1870s, the oldest yacht clubs on the East Coast. Located on Brightlingsea's waterfront, members and visitors enjoy panoramic views across the harbour and estuary from the club's comfortable bars, restaurant and balcony. We have our own jetty with access at all states of the tide and shower facilities available 24/7.
Visit CYC

We are offering an Early Bird entry fee at £150 per boat before 30th June, after which it will revert to £180.
An inclusive package is being offered which will feed you for the week and we have a full programme of evening entertainment.
The full booking form for the event has been launched and can be found by clicking on 'Entries now open'. above

Racing will take place in the Colne/Blackwater Estuary with three races scheduled per day. Most races will be on windward/leeward courses with one longer distance race planned.

Launch and recovery deal

Sonatas will be moored in Brightlingsea harbour and we have negotiated a special mooring rate for the event of £10 per boat per day. It is anticipated that most boats will arrive on the Saturday 6th August, when high tide is at 17.46. Launching services will be available for three hours before and after high water.
Morgan Marine has offered a special launch, storage for the trailer and recovery deal of £100 for the first 15 boats to book for this launch deal. This fee has been partially supported by the Sonata National Association. As the event ends on Wednesday 10th August, we expect most boats will come out of the water the day after, when high water is at 11.22. This should allow for a morning departure from the venue.
The mooring fee covers use of the town hard for launching boats if owners are happy to put their own trailers in the water. The hard has a freshwater hose for washing trailers down after they have been in the water and trailers can be stored free of charge in our own boat yard. The offer can be booked when event entry opens in 2022 – click below to register your interest.
